Remember the Salmon Cannon? The new fish passage device aimed at quickly shooting migrating fish up a pneumatic tube to pass dams and other impoundments. Well, they’re back and this time they’ve stepped up the capabilities of the Salmon cannon into a new, automatic system, called the “Passage Portal”, allowing their systems to function without humans, reducing fish stress and handling time.
Since we last covered their innovations, Whooshh has also introduced several new advancements aimed to create systems that can sort fish, like separating hatchery steelhead from wild run fish or denying passage to invasive species like the Asian carp species that threaten the ecosystems of the Mississippi River and Great Lakes. You can learn more about that project, here!
