According to the Steamboat Pilot, Colorado Parks and Wildlife will be offering free fly fishing classes during the month of July 2020 at both Yampa River and Elkhead State Parks.
From Colorado Parks & Wildlife:
CRAIG, Colorado – Colorado Parks and Wildlife is offering two, free courses teaching the basics of fly fishing at state parks in Northwest Colorado this month. The course will teach participants the basics of equipment, knots, and casting techniques through dry-land casting practice. CPW is providing all the equipment so the only requirements are a state parks pass and a desire to learn.
Participants can bring their own fly fishing gear or borrow some for the evening. All equipment will be sanitized prior to use. Participants are required to bring a face covering and social distancing rules will be observed. Participants need to bring their own outdoor chair. To encourage individual learning and provide safe social distancing, classes are limited to the first 20 registered participants.
The class at Yampa River State Park will be held at the Visitor Center (6185 U.S. Hwy 40, between Hayden and Craig) on Friday, July 17 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Registration for the Yampa River State Park “Intro to Fly Fishing†course can be found online at https://www.register-ed.com/events/view/161088.
The Elkhead Reservoir State Park class will be held near the main boat ramp on Friday, July 24 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Anyone interested in the Elkhead Reservoir event can register online at https://www.register-ed.com/events/view/161090.
